Overview
Invitational world championship for winners of qualifying tournaments worldwide (plus open 'Challenger' entries), fished from Marina Pez Vela, Quepos each April.
The Offshore World Championship gathers teams that won an official qualifying event around the world, plus open-entry Challenger teams since 2026, for four days of billfish-release competition out of Quepos, Costa Rica. Teams rotate through boats or (from 2026) may fish their own; all fish are scored under IGFA rules with video verification, weigh-ins and festivities at Marina Pez Vela and headquarters at the Parador Nature Resort & Spa.
The 2026 edition (April 19-23) featured 38 teams from 22 countries and a $232,220 purse, won by Spain's The Rodfather; the 2027 event is scheduled for April 11-15.
