Overview
Three-day HMTS marlin tournament patterned on golf's Skins Game: each day's purse goes to the largest marlin of 500 lb or more, rolling over if none is caught.
In the Skins Marlin Derby the base purse is put up daily for the largest marlin weighing at least 500 pounds; if no qualifying fish is caught the day's skin rolls into the next day. Tag-and-release jackpots run alongside.
Part of the Hawaii Marlin Tournament Series (HMTS), founded in 1987 and now operated by Marlin magazine's Marlin Group; series points accrue from tagged blue and striped marlin, large weighed blue marlin and weighed ahi. All HMTS events run out of Honokohau Harbor with registration and banquets at the Hawaii Big Game Fishing Club.
